HAROLD VARMUS, MD “The Art of Science & Politics”
Harold Varmus, MD, is a Nobel Prize-winning physician/scientist whose work on the genetic basis of cancer helped transform the modern understanding of cancer biology. He has led some of the nation’s most important scientific institutions, including the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Since 2015, he has been the Lewis Thomas University Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine’s Meyer Cancer Center, where he continues to work on cancer genomics and the broader scientific enterprise. He also currently teaches at Columbia University and is an avid cyclist and tennis player.
